What we do as ‘outreach’
The Philosophy Department at the University of St Andrews is keen to support the teaching of philosophy in secondary education. Over the years we have developed a number of outreach initiatives engaging schools, teachers, and the Philosophy Higher syllabus. We are also beginning to engage in philosophy initiatives at primary-school level, in response to a growing interest in philosophical enquiry as part of the ‘curriculum for excellence’.
We hold regular events here in St Andrews to support both pupils and teachers of philosophy, and in the past our staff have even taken outreach ‘on the road’, visiting schools to give talks. This website contains information about all our outreach activities.
Unfortunately, we will not be running our Online Distance-Learning Modules in the academic year 2019-20. We will be developing our online provision/strategy, and will announce details of this redevelopment here in due course.
To make our outreach as effective as possible, we need to know what you need! We’re asking for your views on what events to hold, and when. Please view our Events page and give us your input on events you may be interested in.
